Lowe’s Companies and Earth Friendly Building Materials, LLC (EFBM) announced today that the international home improvement company will be adding EFBM’s patented Earth Friendly Block™ (EF Block™) to its environmentally responsible product line. Residential and commercial builders, contractors and consumers now have an alternative energy efficient construction material available to increase sustainability.
“EF Block™ eliminates the need for costly insulation in building walls and simplifies the construction process,” according to EFBM CEO, Dan Chouinard. “Interior and exterior finishes, such as stucco and plaster (or myriad other traditional finishes) can be directly applied to the blocks.”
“Construction time, manpower and material costs can be dramatically reduced,” Dan continued. Other advantages of EF Block™ for building owners include: maximized thermal performance, minimized sound transmission, reduced fire risk and pest infiltration (such as termites and rodents). EF Block™ has performed better than traditional wood frame constructions in high winds and earthquakes.
EF Block™ is an innovative ICF (Insulated Concrete Form) or ICB (Insulated Concrete Block) wall system made of over 85% recycled EPS, Portland cement and other proprietary ingredients. It is manufactured per the IRC (International Residential Code) screen grid and HUD (US Department of Housing and Urban Development) specifications.
“We’re excited to be recognized by Lowe’s as a supplier in the emerging ICF industry,” Dan concluded, “EF Block™ is really taking off like crazy. Contractors and owner builders worldwide will soon be able to enjoy the many advantages of our – nearly — indestructible green wall system.” Look for ordering information at local Lowe’s store’s ProServices desks.
